The Trust have used their influence from time to time to offer their services as developers of last resort when buildings of historic and architectural quality are possibly going to be demolished. Such a case occurred in West Street in Prittlewell, where six almshouses were scheduled for demolition. Members of the Trust offered to restore them as small start-up dwellings, an intervention which resulted in the retention of the buildings as four separate units.
